How do we counter hatred?

Posted by: Prerna In: Uncategorized

Anti-immigrant, anti-undocumented student, anti-gay, racism, sexism and other isms — It is a compelling reason to stay holed up in my room all day lost in some simulation game or fantasy, to only ‘come out’ for gym, breakfast, lunch, gym, dinner. Who needs ’social interaction’ when it is full of hatred? What are we teaching [...]

South Carolina: First to Bar Undocumented Students

Posted by: DreamActivist In: Education| Immigration

Stuck in the deep recesses of the South and in a horserace to appear tough on immigration, the South Carolina Senate has approved a get-tough on immigration measure that among other things, would bar undocumented students from higher education in the state.
S 392 which may be signed as early as next week reads:

SECTION [...]

The Associated Press and several other news outlets picking up the AP are quoting the Arkansas Governor Beebee for stating that a “legal opinion he signed while he served as the state’s attorney general in 2005 clearly showed giving illegal immigrants in-state tuition likely would violate the Equal Protection Clause of the 14th Amendment.”
I [...]

The progressive media is finally paying more attention to the emerging police state in light of immigration crackdowns in Postville, Iowa and the Washington Post report on the (mis)treatment of immigrant detainees. Joshua Holland provides a good summation in his article of the actions carried out by the enforcers of immigration law, actions that were [...]

"..basically the legal system made us illegal…" - Sonia, senior at Loyola Academy.
Students at Loyola Academy have put together this three-part documentary in support of the DREAM Act legislation.
I was drawn to Sonia's story because it resembled mine in so many ways. She immigrated with her mother to the United States with a proper visa [...]

Deporting Weng back to Communist Repression

Posted by: DreamActivist In: Uncategorized

Seven years ago, Zhenliang Weng escaped China to seek political refuge in the United States and enjoy our freedoms and liberties not granted by the China Communist Party (CCP). Today he faces deportation because he made the mistake of obtaining a fake passport in order to get here. While in the United States, Weng became [...]

It’s time to see a hand specialist

Posted by: Prerna In: Uncategorized

This is a rare rant that provides some insight into my life that I hardly share.
For 7 weeks now, I have struggled with a wrist injury that was taken all too lightly at first. And by that I mean, even with prominent swelling that spelled a broken bone or dislocation, it was deemed alright for [...]

Prerna: Who is excited about the DNC? *yawn*

admin: hey NR , thanks for stopping by :) I'll put up better poems someday lol

Noresistance: A sweet message as you requested.. getting lost on your site and in your poetry!

admin: I am really sorry to disappoint and make everyone wait ... It is at the back of my mind even as I study (usually at the gym) but since the story is so emotionally draining, I cannot focus on it while truly trying to prepare for my exams :(

Hil: I just gave up and tried some honesty. I tried to be supportive (and keep my mouth shut) cause i'm a student too, so i know what its like.. I didnt want to be pushy, i mean: the girl needs to study!! but, patience is not one of my virtues. guess im just gonna learn the art of waiting -.-
