Till We Meet Again | A Bette-Tina Beginning Chapter 4

NY Subway Station

Tina sat at the station patiently along with Michelle, the young student she had promised to escort home.

After Keith’s kidnapping, the atmosphere at school was full of fear and panic—comforting the scared children had usurped most of her energy, and she had to deviate from the lesson plans several times. She didn’t mind of course – her life revolved around these children. But right now she just wanted to get home and relax in a hot bubble bath with champagne, all on her own.

Tina sighed wistfully and watched as a slightly over-weight young boy approached Michelle, smiling shyly at her.

“Hi Michelle…I didn’t see you in school today. I wanted to give you this.” Trevor holds out a red rose, “Don’t worry. Everything will be alright. You don’t have to fear anyone. I will protect you.”

Michelle nodded even more shyly and accepted the rose, “Thank you. What are you doing here?”

Trevor shrugged. “Mommy got our neighbor to take me home since she had to go out of state. She says granny is sick but she will be back soon”…Trevor studied his shoe laces… “Erm, Michelle…would you have lunch with me tomorrow…in school?”

Tina was engrossed in a novel but closely monitoring the conversation. She suppressed as smile as she glanced sideways to see Michelle discreetly blush and nod at Trevor and Trevor waving goodbye.

Children were so innocent and naïve to the ugliness of the world—being around them made her forget her loss and emptiness, even if temporarily.

She settled back into her novel until she picked up on a menacing voice coming from behind her.

“SHHHHHHHHHHH…QUIETEN down Trevor — I told you not to go anywhere and not to talk to anyone else…YOU will regret this young boy…You will NEVER see your mother again…”

Tina spun around and caught sight of Trevor sobbing and a hooded figure dressed in a black trench coat crouching down and roughly handling the young boy. The person’s face was turned away from Tina. Blackbeast! Tina thought, completely horrified at the prospect.

Bette was absolutely livid. She had been scared when she could not find Trevor, and after finally spotting him on the other side of the platform and going after him as fast as she could, Bette was in pain and compensating by taking it out on poor Trevor. “…I will make sure of that—I will take you home and make mincemeat out of you, since you have plenty! Ohh Trust me…I am gonna kidnap you myself and have so much fun while doing so!”

She stood up, grabbed Trevor’s hand, dragging him along with her towards the elevator, all the while ranting on… “Do you have any idea boy, what could happen with you? Wait till your mommy finds out! Didn’t she ever tell you never abandon your escort…”

Unbeknownst to Bette, Tina had quietly taken Michelle and followed Bette and Trevor as discreetly as possible. She crept up behind Bette as Bette continued to rant away a mile a minute. Bette left Trevor’s hand upon reaching the elevator to push the button to bring it up. Tina saw her opportunity, clamped her hand around Trevor’s mouth, dragging him away while whispering “Don’t worry Trevor, I got you. The Blackbeast cannot hurt you!” Trevor started to protest but was overpowered by Tina’s will to ‘save’ him from this beast…
