Till We Meet Again | A Bette-Tina Beginning Chapter 9

THE NIGHT OF ROCK N ROLL

Jack’s voice boomed through the banquet hall,
“…so welcome to a night of rock n roll you will always remember!”

His 300 nude girls were nowhere to be seen, not that he had expected his son to come through on it. He could always pretend to have x-ray vision. And anyway, that was a long-standing joke between father and son—the party was an annual affair and full of their friends, family, colleagues and business associates. As always, Kamakaze had done an excellent job with the setting and décor of his party—highly ornamented with staff, shimmering white gold lights lined the heights of the 80 foot tall ceiling, with two electrollers forming great clusters of incandescent lights. Forming a semi-circle at the back of the hall was a dance floor with a live band and private dining was in the balcony directly above. Beyond the dance floor, guests milled, drinks in hand, or clumped in boisterous groups. The roar of conversation almost matched the blare of the live band performing (I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction by the Rolling Stones.

Bette entered the hall and would have spun around and vanished into thin air if it wasn’t for her bad knee. She did not have her cane with her today, not wanting to draw attention to her handicap at a high-society gathering. Still, the brunette had never looked better—she had put her hair up with soft curls falling down her neck and wore a shimmering black evening gown that hung shamelessly low showing off her cleavage with a ¾ slit up her thigh.

Tina did a double-take when she saw Bette and almost dropped her glass of white wine. She had never seen Bette dressed to the nines like this evening. No, usually Bette just lay everyone dead with her dark sense of humor but tonight heads were rolling and turning towards her, short gasps and sharp intakes of breathe filled the atmosphere as the conversation lulled to a stop around Tina. She could only look at Bette while the live band strummed out another 60s hit song.

Girl, you really got me goin
You got me so I dont know what Im doin
Yeah, you really got me now
You got me so I cant sleep at night

“God she is gorgeous.” Tina unconsciously licked her lips as her throat felt dry and thirsty, all the moisture driven out and collected elsewhere. But of course she would not acknowledge the small fact that looking at Bette across the room turned her on. She shamelessly checked out Bette’s sexy bare shoulders, plunging neckline, her cleavage that left little room for imagination, traveling down to the long slit that showed off her sexy and well-defined mocha legs. Oh god, the woman is sex on legs. Period.

Yeah, you really got me now
You got me so I dont know what Im doin, now
Oh yeah, you really got me now
You got me so I cant sleep at night

You really got me
You really got me
You really got me

Tina finished her wine with a gulp, stopped a waiter, gave him the now empty glass and downed two more drinks rapidly. The mixture of wine with ice-cold vodka and whiskey made her stomach burn and her head feel light and yet she wanted more, something stronger that could counter the exhilarating effect the divine-like brunette was having on her. Her creamy skin was flushed pink with arousal and her breathing shallow—she blamed the alcohol for how hot it suddenly felt in the room. Tina was most definitely hot and insatiable, but maybe not for alcohol.

No woman, no wait, not even men had incited these deep sexual feelings in her. What the fuck is the matter with me? Tina thought to herself as she tried to gain control of herself.

Bette found herself looking around for Tina as she waited for Alice to come rescue her from the hordes of people that she felt were staring at her. What are they looking at? She almost felt naked in the limelight. Oh, Bette knew she was attractive, but the men were gaping at her as if they had never seen a woman before, while their wives, girlfriends, mistresses, whatever were also staring at her with half envy and admiration.

Her eyes fell on Tina and she almost tripped over nothing in particular. Oh, thank god for a bad knee, she could always feign to trip and be excused instead of attracting amused expressions from onlookers.

The blonde was absolutely gorgeous in a tight black dress that fitted her like a glove, hugging and accentuating all her curves, held together by a strap around her neck. Bette sucked in a sharp breathe as Tina turned around to grab a drink from the waiter; the creamy skin of her bare back glowing, highlighted by the golden mane around her lovely shoulders.

Bette could not tear her gaze from Tina. Her mind barely registered the drinks that Tina downed as she turned back and met Bette’s gaze with her own. Bette saw a flash of lust and desire in Tina’s hazel eyes that probably matched her own. She could have sworn that Tina was checking her out. The entire room would be blind to not notice the obvious attraction between these two women who gravitated towards each other. Only Bette and Tina were either oblivious or ignoring the mounting sexual tension between them. In the background, the band burst into a rendition of Pretty Woman as Bette and Tina eye-fucked each other across the room.

Pretty woman, walkin’ down the street,
Pretty woman, the kind I’d like to meet,
Pretty woman,
I don’t believe you
You’re not the truth,
No one can look as good as you….Mercy

Pretty woman, oh won’t you pardon me,
Pretty woman, I couldn’t help but see,
Pretty woman,
That you look lovely as can be,
Are you lonely just like me.

Tina mentally checked herself and sexily swaggered towards Bette like a tigress on a prowl. At least that is what Bette felt like, a helpless prey, as she swallowed nervously. Was it just by chance that she felt giddy and intoxicated even without any alcohol consumption? Or was it the effect a certain blonde was having on her? Bette steeled herself, putting down walls and fences as Tina closed the distance between them.

“My my, if it isn’t Dr. House on crack without the trademark cane?”

Bette raised an eyebrow.
“That was almost good, how long have you been practicing that line in your head?”

Tina shrugged.
“About a week…”

Bette looked bemused. Tina pretended to look nonchalant. They smiled shyly and awkwardly at each other, shuffling their feet and rubbing their necks at the same time, their actions in-sync and mirroring one another, both trying to find something to ease the tension and discomfort between them. They both caught each other’s eye and started laughing.

“Hi…”

“Hello…”

“I cannot believe I am saying this, but you look amazing…”

“Thank you, so do you T…I mean Tina. Actually, do you mind if I call you T?”

It was Tina’s turn to raise an eyebrow.
“Don’t you think it is a little too soon for pet names and endearments?”

“I would hardly think of three, almost four years, 1 broken knee, one twisted ankle, two flailing marriages and four unhappy people as too soon.” Bette was back to bitter Bette.

Tina narrowed her eyes and Bette was saved from a scalding reply as Eric appeared with a glass of champagne for himself and Tina. Bette watched as Tina downed down the drink and stood on tiptoe to give Eric a lingering kiss for Bette’s benefit.

“Mmmm…wow, if I had known I would get kisses like that, I would have dragged you out of the house much sooner than this.” Eric pinched Tina’s ass, and finally noticed how deeply flushed she was. He had never seen her in this state, not even after a long and hard run in the morning or the few times that they fucked. Was Tina aroused? he wondered with sudden enlightenment, a Cheshire-like grin on his face that Bette wanted to seriously wipe out.

He finally acknowledged Bette. “Oh hi Bette, did you just get here? Bette nodded. “Would you like something to drink?” Glancing at Tina with a smirk, “I don’t see Alice anywhere.”

“A scotch on the rocks please and my wife will be right with you.” Bette did not pretend to hide her displeasure.

As if on cue, Alice entered the hall with Kit in tow, glancing about, impressed by the décor and atmosphere. She was wearing a simple yet elegant black evening gown that showed an ample amount of cleavage, with a set of pearl necklace and earrings. Suffix is to say, she looked stunning. Her eyes traveled the room looking for Bette and as she walked closer, Alice was surprised to see Bette standing with Eric and Tina.

God I hope she is behaving herself tonight. It was hard enough getting her here. Now the hard work begins in keeping her entertained enough not to make any scene or embarrass me publicly.

As she headed towards Bette, Jack made a bee-line for the older Porter, with ‘Saturday’ on his side.

“Why hello there long time no see!”

Kit let out a fake chuckle. “Just as well.”

She knew Jack from his ‘business’ trips to LA where he often frequented the café that she ran, probably trying to fulfill one of his male fantasies about lesbians. The guy was incorrigible—he pretty much hit on everything that moved. Small world.

“Hello…” she said, studying the girl by Jack’s side. “Won’t you introduce me to your lovely daughter Jack?”

“Daughter? Maybe for you… No, meet Saturday.”

“Saturday?”

“Yeah. Now I cannot remember so many names so I just name them after the day I meet them.”

“I see.” Kit wrinkled her nose in disgust.

“Ready to go gorgeous,” Jack said turning to Saturday who linked her arms to him and fell in step.

“Who was that?” she asked.

“Oh, a very distant great-aunt.”

Kit put her hands on her hips and scowled. Oh that mofo was about to get his share of days.

Elsewhere…
“Hello Alice. Thanks for coming.” Eric leaned down and kissed Alice on both cheeks.

“Oh trust me, the pleasure is all mine. The 60s theme is such a great idea. Everything is just so beautiful.” Alice answered genuinely.

The hairs on Bette’s neck stood up, and she took down her scotch in two gulps.

“Oh nooo” boomed Jack from behind as he approached the two couples. He held out his hand to Alice, “you are beautiful my dear. I am Jack, Eric’s Dad, in every way.” He winked at Eric.

Bette stepped in front of Alice and took his hand. “Hello, I am her wife…in almost every way.”

“You really do look beautiful today Alice,” Eric said, ignoring Bette on purpose. “I really think we should have that affair,” he said jokingly, teasing Tina.

Tina rolled her eyes. Eric really did not know when to stop.

“Sure. I know for a fact that Bette won’t mind. She would just get an excuse to do the yelling and haggling that she usually does without cause.” Alice looked over at Bette affectionately and squeezed her hand.

“Hmm, Tina wouldn’t mind either as long as we sit and discuss it later,” Eric replied as he put his arm around Tina’s shoulders and pressed her against him.

“Oh wow, you have discussions in your house. At our place you have to make an appointment two weeks ahead of time in order to meet your significant other,” Bette said, ever so sarcastically.

Jack faked a chuckle much like Kit had earlier. “I think I need a drink.” And disappeared as fast as he could from the warring couples.

“Great idea Dad, lets all get drunk. Yeah!” He turned to Tina, who did not seem too enthusiastic about his suggestion. Her mood seemed to have changed from earlier on. Eric did not want to deal with her moodiness just then.

“Alice, shall we?” He reached out for her hand and together they strode to the bar.

“And off she goes…” Bette stated the obvious, moving closer to Tina as they both watched Eric and Alice, arm-in-arm, walking away with each other.

“Do you know any good divorce lawyers?” she asked Tina, half-jokingly. Tina smiled. “I hate these parties,” Bette continued. “I feel like these gatherings are just an excuse for people to touch other people’s wives.” She looked at Tina suggestively, now standing shoulder to shoulder with her, inhaling her sweet scent.

Tina immediately stopped smiling. “Don’t even think about it,” she warned Bette.

Bette let out a deep sexy chuckle. “Don’t worry. I am not that desperate. Just look at them…” she pointed out the guests, all greeting each other with kisses, lingering their touches a few seconds too long.

Tina quietly absorbed the scenery before her, secretly enjoying being there with Bette. Maybe the alcohol was clouding her inhibitions and dulling the throbbing ache she usually got when Bette was anywhere near. She glanced sideways at the beauty before her. Bette’s presence, no matter how annoying, presumptuous and irritating was strangely comforting, even alluring. Tina focused back in on the one-sided conversation Bette was carrying on with herself.

“…and you know what I have realized. That it is not parties I have a problem with. It is people…” Bette finished.

Tina smirked. “As far as I know Bette, people aren’t particularly fighting to fall at your feet either.”

Bette chuckled. “Well, it’s not like you have a long line of suitors behind you either.”

“It doesn’t matter. Everyone here is a stranger for me.” Tina hugged herself, now feeling very empty and alone even in the sea of friendly and familiar faces before her.

“Even your husband?” Bette grinned and then stopped smiling as she saw the serious expression on Tina’s face.

Ahead of them, Alice and Eric danced, arm-in-arm.

When I had you to myself
I didnt want you around
Those pretty faces always made you
Stand out in a crowd
Then someone picked you from the bunch
One glance was all it took
Now its much too late for me
To take a second look

The whole crowd, spurred on by Eric and Alice, burst into the chorus as Bette and Tina looked on.

Oh baby give me one more chance
To show you that I love you
Wont you please send me back in your heart

Bette decided to try and elevate Tina’s distress. She had not danced in years but now held out her hand for Tina to take, even as she feared rejection. In turn, Tina decided that there was no harm in dancing with Bette with Eric cozying up to Alice, and resisted making any jokes about Bette’s bad knee. She put her hand in Bette’s and immediately felt a current of electricity shoot from the contact, up her arm and through to every nerve ending. Tina brushed this off as another anomaly—Bette was so attractive, any woman would be into her, gay or straight. It did not need to mean anything, right? Bette led them to the dance floor but not before Tina had downed more hard liquor from the waiter.

Tina closed her eyes and let the pumping beats fill her emptiness as she danced with wild abandon, spinning circles around Bette.

Trying to live without your love
Is one long sleepless night
Let me show you girl
That I know wrong from right

Every street you walk on
I leave tear stains on the ground
Following the girl
I didnt even want around

Bette watched on in surprise as the blonde giggled and buried her face in the crook of her neck. She inhaled the strawberry scent of Tina’s hair, pushing the strands back from her face. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw Alice and Eric, now more drunk, bumping and grinding into each other. Bette was furious. She was about to march up to them and rip them apart, but Tina was clinging to Bette now, brushing herself up against her, sending heat waves of desire pouring throughout Bette’s body, making her forget everything but how well Tina fit against her, how each touch of their bodies sent an aching pain in her burning loins.

Abuh buh buh buh
All I want!
Abuh buh buh buh
All I need!
Abuh buh buh buh…..

Bette closed her eyes, trying not to concentrate on the fact that Tina had her hands on her hips, griping her and was grinding into her from behind, thrusting her pelvic to the rhythm of the music.. The blonde was far and out—totally wasted—and Bette was steadily losing control of herself. She had to stop, she had to do something before she lost control and claimed Tina in front of everyone.

Thankfully, someone must have heard her prayers. The song came to an end and as people groaned at the interruption, Jack cheerily said into the mike, “Now now, those of you wanting to dance the night away are welcome to do so, but just to let everyone know, dinner is served upstairs.”

Bette breathed a sigh of relief and tried to steady Tina on her feet who was hiccupping and giggling uncontrollably. She helped the staggering blonde off the dance floor, and signaled for the waiter to get a pitcher of water for Tina.

“Here Tina, drink this up.”

Tina peered curiously at the glass of water and Bette. “How come there are 2 of you now?” as she tried to shake her head and clear her vision.

“T…please, you should drink some water,” Bette said, guiding it to her lips and watching as Tina gulped it down much like the alcohol previously.

“Bette…Can I tell you something?” She hiccupped again and burst out into giggles.

Bette was now both relieved and amused. “What?” she smiled as the blonde cocked her head to the side, scrunched up her face as if she was deep in thought.

She stood on tiptoe, her lips almost touching Bette’s ear. “I like it when you call me T…Please call me that from now on” she whispered breathlessly, her words sending shivers down Bette’s spine.

Bette smiled. “I will, I promise…T,” she replied, pulling back to look tenderly into Tina’s eyes.

It would be the first of many promises between the two.

“Hello…are we interrupting something?”
Eric and Alice stood, grinning at Bette and Tina, who only moments ago, were lost in each other’s eyes.

Thankfully, they did not wait for a reply.

“You know Bette, I should bring the house down on you now for having an affair!” Alice said teasingly as she took Bette by the arm.

Eric chimed in as he took Tina into his arms. “Yeah, what do you say Tina? Do you want to ‘discuss’ this?” Tina shook her head, now feeling the return of a familiar pounding HEADache.

“Anyway, care to join us for dinner?”

“Sure, lead the way” Alice replied for Bette and herself, as Bette was too concerned about Tina to pay attention to the conversation around them.

As the two couples went upstairs for dinner, they all missed Kit and Jack dancing together into the night
