Day 2 – The REAL democratic National Convention vs. the Police State

One after another, the women leaders of the Democrat National Party took center-stage on Day 2. The roster included Governor K. Selebius, Senator Mary Landrieu, Senator Claire McCaskill, Senator Debbie Stabenow, Senator Maria Cantwell, Governor Napolitano, and finally Hillary Clinton rounded up the day. The subliminal message was clear–women stand to gain more from a Barack Obama Presidency than a McCain one.

Yet, none of the women senators pointed out the gross injustice and violation of human and constitutional rights happening against women just outside their closed tent of the DNC–Code Pink (a women for peace group) supporters were among the many protesters holding a non-violent demonstration that were beaten and pepper-sprayed by cops. They were delegates that were unseated and unheard at the convention. Quite democratic, no?

Speaking of democracy, Dennis Kucinich delivered the most eloquent and passionate speech of the day that could only be seen on CSPAN as MSNBC and other networks hurriedly took a commercial break. If the networks went to such length to omit this speech, it must be worth seeing. Youtube is democracy in action in this case so hear goes Wake up America:

Wake up, America. This is not a call for you to take a new direction from right to left. This is call for you to go from down to up. Up with the rights of workers. Up with wages. Up with fair trade. Up with creating millions of good paying jobs, rebuilding our bridges, ports and water systems. Up with creating millions of sustainable energy jobs to lower the cost of energy, lower carbon emissions and protect the environment.

Up with health care for all. Up with education for all. Up with home ownership. Up with guaranteed retirement benefits. Up with peace. Up with prosperity. Up with the Democratic Party. Up with Obama-Biden.

Wake up, America. Wake up, America. Wake up, America.

Unfortunately, Kucinich contradicts his bold and enthralling message as he takes a leap from democracy to the Democratic Party and Obama-Biden.

The Democrats don’t have copyright over the term ‘democracy’ – The DNC is simply a stage for empty rhetoric and slogans. Real democracy is happening outside the convention.

Multitudes of peoples from different states, ethnic groups, social backgrounds came together with the Recreate ’68 alliance (with or without suspect origins) chanting, singing, shouting, and speaking out against a wide variety of issues–the war against Iraq, prison-industrial complex, political prisoners, immigration raids, pro and anti-gay, neo-liberalism and more.  The mainstream faux media and right-wingers rejected them as mere rioters and college kids (probably since their own anti-immigration activists barely drew a dozen bodies) but these ‘kids’ purported serious issues, questioning whether the Obama-Biden ticket could really stand for ‘change you can believe in.’ The energy, excitement, passion and democratic fervor would be unparalleled by any DNC or RNC anytime soon since this is what real democracy looks and sounds like, these are the people who have surely awoken and are trying to WAKE UP AMERICA.

Of course ‘real democracy’ is short-lived as the fascist police state comes cracking down with pepper spray and batons on the peaceful protests while the media highlights the fact that the protesters did not have ‘permits.’ We need a permit to protest in this ‘democracy?’ Oftentimes, by trying to delegitimize the protesters, the state liberates itself from abiding by rules and laws creating an acceptable climate for state-sponsored violence aka terrorism. So by labeling the peaceful protesters as pro-violence, immature college kids, rioters and law-breakers, the state–with the help of the media–justifies violence against them as seen in this video:

The de-legitimization of the Other continues when the lines are drawn between legal and illegal in terms of immigration status, even though it is still baffling to me as to how a human being can be illegal. When the U.S. government invades another sovereign country ILLEGALLY, it does so without raising questions about its legality. But when people migrate to take jobs in order to escape the desperate conditions that the U.S. and its allies have created around the world with open borders for capital and corporations, it is an ILLEGAL INVASION and LAWS suddenly have to be enforced.

So the ICE–another terrorist arm of the violent state–moved into Mississippi to conduct a showcase immigration raid, shrouded by the fake spectacled democracy of the DNC that made promises of “immigration reform” while ignoring the very real ongoing raids. Migrant workers were rounded up, interrogated (illegally without counsel) and detained, ripped from their families and their children. And as hundreds of immigrant children go to sleep without their parents tonight, with worries about their immediate future at the forefront of their minds and fears about the uncertainty that tomorrow brings, Hillary Clinton is on the stage declaring herself as a “proud mother” and “proud Democrat.” In cyberspace, Prairie Pundit sits in the privilege of his prairie home withdrawn from democracy and civilization, and does not see ICE raids against workers Mississippi as “terrorism” because there are no exploding bodies and nothing to fear. And the DNC concludes Day 2 with smiles, praises, applause and cheers at its fake democratic character.
