Anti-migrant blogosphere (ALIPAC) fueled by 80-year-olds financed by undocumented migrants!
I called that one a while ago!
This just in from a new and ferociously debated article in the Chicago Tribune:
“I’ve got 80-year-olds that are . . . Internet fighter pilots,” said William Gheen, president of the North Carolina-based Americans for Legal Immigration Political Action Committee, a conservative group whose Web campaign helped derail Immigration reform legislation in Congress last year by prompting thousands of faxes, e-mails and phone calls to legislators.
“Some of them, when they first came on, were scared to death to even interact in this media,” Gheen said. “But I’ve watched them grow. Necessity is the mother of invention, and we’re inventing tactics as we go.”
Erm, Gheen, I didn’t know that fear, loathing and bigotry were ‘new tactics’ — Sounds like more of the same OLD?
Lets get this straight. These elderly people, who are probably sitting on social security, paid for and kept solvent by undocumented immigrant workers, are spending their unproductive lives blogging and spewing hatred against the very people whose contributions allow them to do so? These are the very people that would benefit when the DREAM Act passes and America has more young people working to finance the retirement of the baby boomers. If that is not hypocrisy, than I don’t know what is. You may have a legitimate reason to complain as an underpaid American construction worker about undocumented migrants taking away your job (mind you, I have hardly ever come across this–seems like the productive people move on and get jobs rather than ranting online).
Check out the Adult Education Catalog in the mail and sign up for a yoga class instead of harassing pro-migrant bloggers and students online! Maybe English as a second language would help broaden their lexicon beyond “illegal is illegal” as well.
I don’t mean to be demeaning or mean-spirited, but as a youth who knows that each generation brings change and a fresh set of ideas, I have no regard for the opinions of those from the times of segregation who now channel their hatred of diversity and multiculturalism through spreading hatred and bigotry against undocumented migrants online.
